Open Pores Treatment

Pores are tiny openings in the skin. They serve as pathways for oil to reach the skin. The Sebaceous glands, also called as the oil glands lie underneath the pores. The sebum produced by the sebaceous gland travels through the channel that opens up at the pores and helps the skin remain soft and supple.

Why are pores left open?

Pores remain opened when there is excessive production of sebum in the sebaceous gland. This leads to blockage and inflammation in the pores. The additional build up of oils stretches the walls of the pore canal constantly and leads to increase in the size of the pores and decrease in the skin elasticity.

Causes of Open Pores

Exposure to extreme sunlight Exposure to extreme sunlight affects the collagen in the skin which reduces elasticity of the skin and increases the size of the pores.

Ageing The natural process of ageing causes loss of the components that help maintain the texture of the skin. The pores open up further and appear larger because the skin loses its elasticity due to ageing.

Oily Skin Excessive production of sebum leads to the build up of oils that stretches the pore channels and makes the skin lose its elasticity, thus opening the pores up even more.

Treatment of Open Pores

Daily Cleansing Cleansing is a very important step of treating open pores. A good cleanser helps clean the dirt accumulated in the pores and control oil secretion.

Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive technique to clean and reduce the size of the pores. It also increases the elasticity of the skin.

Chemical Peels Chemical Peels help exfoliate the affected areas on the skin and produce new skin cells.

Laser Therapy Laser Therapy helps reduce the size of the pores by stimulating growth of collagen. The new collagen produced around the oil glands compresses the gland and the opening of the pores and in turn reduces the size of the pores.
